Honestly, it's pretty similar to how you might prepare for any big event. But let's talk through some of the specifics!

1. Get Inspired

In the weeks leading up to your shoot, go ahead and save images that you find inspirational. You might like the pose, the mood, or perhaps the props. This is a great time to get on Pinterest and save some ideas! Go ahead and share these with your photographer so they can bring your vision to life.

2. Wardrobe Selection

What you wear is so important. Choose clothing that feels true to you and your vision, while also being a good and comfortable fit.

If you're doing a group shoot, you'll want to coordinate your outfits so that there is something that ties them together whether through color or texture. This is something your photographer should be able to advise you on - I encourage my clients to include me in their wardrobe selection.

I also love it when folks bring an extra layer and/or accessory so that our photos have a little bit more variety even without a full outfit change.

3. Hair and Makeup

In the week leading up to your photoshoot, you might consider getting your haircut cleaned up, your nails done, etc. If you have a beard and/or mustache, make sure that it's neat and tidy. If you have the budget for it, you could also consider professional hair and/or makeup for the day of your shoot.

4. Be Prepared

Check the weather and make sure you don't need to bring an umbrella or rain coat. If your shoot is somewhere where you'll need to walk quite a bit, you might consider bringing a change of shoes (those comfy tennies that don't look the best, but are perfect for walking between locations).

Make sure to pack a full water bottle and maybe a snack or two, especially if you've got kids or just want to go the extra mile for yourself.

5. Rest and Relax

You'll want to get a good night's sleep before your photoshoot so that you look and feel your best. On the day itself, stay hydrated and don't skip meals! You'll need that energy to stay alert, composed, and most importantly... not hangry.
